Romans 1:2 (MSG) – The sacred writings contain preliminary reports by the prophets on God’s Son. His descent from David roots Him in history; His unique identity as Son of God was shown by the Spirit when Jesus was raised from the dead, setting Him apart as the Messiah our Master.
Paul, who wrote these words, had been a devoted Jewish scholar, well versed in Old Testament writings and furious that a Christian movement had emerged declaring Jesus as Lord. He engaged in extreme persecution of Jesus followers (Acts 8:1) until something supernatural happened to him. He physically saw for himself the resurrected Jesus and heard Jesus speak to Him. And from that point forward he experienced such internal transformation that he became the most well-known evangelist that Christianity has ever known—writing much of the New Testament, starting churches throughout the Mediterranean region, and ultimately becoming a martyr for his faith. Today we don’t often see Jesus in a physical way, but we do experience Him in life transforming ways as we choose to lean into faith in Jesus Christ. Open your heart and lean in.
