Exodus 33:11 (NIV)
The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend.
Moses learned how to listen to God’s voice, though that process came with many vacillations and detours. He learned to listen and obey; and their relationship became deeply intimate. But the Children of Israel were not ready for that kind of intimacy. Not far into their wilderness journey they realized how dangerous it was to be in God’s presence and they told Moses, “You speak to us and we will listen, but do not let God speak to us or we will die” (Ex. 20:19). How close do you want to be with God? Do you want Him as your best friend? We deepen our relationship with Him by increments as we learn how to hear His voice and draw near in prayer. Don’t be afraid of God. He loves you and has your best interests in mind. Welcome Him into the private places of your soul. He will heal, not hurt you. He will instruct, not destroy you. Take one step at a time.
