Philippians 1:9 (NIV) And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight.
The Apostle Paul cares deeply for the Philippian church and his prayer is for them to grow in love, which brings knowledge and discernment. When we judge people and do not see them as people for whom our loving Savior died, then our testimony falls on deaf ears. If we want to understand a culture then we have to befriend the people within that culture (as any good missionary would do) and learn how they think and why they live as they live. We pray for them and serve them and in the process we build a bridge that enables honest and transparent conversations. We gain understanding, depth of insight, knowledge. Do you know someone who is difficult to love? Pray for your roots to grow down into God’s love (Eph 3:17) so that you can be a pure reflection of Jesus Christ in a broken-hearted world.
