DAILY DEVOTIONS – WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 2, 2020

Luke 1:16-17  Many of the people of Israel will he bring back to the Lord their God.

God used John as a critic of society—to name sin for what it was,  and to call for a change in religious life.  He challenged people to examine their hearts,  to follow God wholly,  and to live in purity from the inside out.  His call to water baptism was a call to self-washing and purification.  He prepared them for the arrival of Jesus by calling them to repentance and by creating spiritual thirst.  God chooses to use us in similar ways.  Our godly behavior should stand in stark contrast to the norms of those who do not follow Christ.  As faith guides us into compassionate service that goes far beyond the call of duty,  inspired onlookers will feel the draw of Christ’s love.  This Christmas season is the  “annual showing”  for the Church,  our opportunity to point to Jesus,  the Redeemer.  Inspire thirst today.
