DAILY DEVOTIONS – TUESDAY DECEMBER 1, 2020

Luke 1:13  …Do not be afraid,  Zechariah;  your prayer has been heard.  Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son….

We serve a God who hears our prayers.  He may not always answer them in the ways we prefer;  but He has our best interests at heart.  When you can’t trace his hand,  you can trust His heart.  After a lifetime of waiting for their prayer for a child to be answered,  Zechariah and Elizabeth’s expectations dwindled.  Too many years had passed.  Youthful strength was gone.  So they learned to be content and yield the kinds of dreams that come with youthful exuberance.  They settled into their reality and chose a simple,  faithful life.  Then God interrupted their reality with something better;  He gave them a son who would be the forerunner of Christ.  The dreams and visions that God inspires in our hearts only come into reality as a result of His oversight and ordained purposes.  That is why we can always trust God with our deepest desires.  His dreams are bigger than ours.  His outcomes are far greater.  Give all your expectations to God and live blamelessly before Him (vs 6).  He will bring His purposes to pass in your life.
