II Timothy 1:7 (NIV) For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.
Fear is a normal human emotion that we’ve all experienced. In every new, intimidating circumstance we learn to set aside draining emotions, focus on solutions, and step boldly forward with self-discipline. Many fears dissolve once truth is explained. Still, the feelings of fear are very real. As we learn to identify what we fear, then we can take steps to overcome that fear. And every time we overcome a fear, we get stronger. We have an enemy who specializes in fear. The Holy Spirit teaches us how to overcome it. Think of all the Biblical heroes who had to push past their fears in order to accomplish their God-given missions. Jill Briscoe says, “After obedience, the courage comes in.” So grab hold of God’s power, remember His faithful love, and engage in self-discipline to get the job done. You can move forward in the strength of the Lord.
