When we spend extended time meditating on the gospel accounts of Jesus, trying to visualize them, trying to see ourselves in the story, and focusing on how Jesus interacted with people in each situation, we begin to see how human He was. He becomes more human and real to us. The invisible God, of whom He is the image, becomes more accessible. Meet Him in the events of His life and see how, in Jesus, God is present: God with us, Immanuel. If you genuinely seek to ground your God-knowing in the Gospels, there is no substitute for meditation on the life of Christ because the Gospels give us wonderful, rich opportunities to meet Jesus—if we will just learn to gaze on Him there. “God gave Jesus as the Divine Image so that we could gaze upon Him and thereby come to know God. This is why Gospel meditation builds such transformational power.” (Benner 2015, 39-40) Find time every day to read one of the narratives. Get to know Jesus better.
