Genesis 2:18 (NIV) The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
Here is the first “NOT GOOD” statement from God. Of course, God’s purpose in creating woman and instituting marriage made possible the propagation of the race and the fulfillment of His command in 1:28. But here we see that God’s main purpose for marriage was not sexual fulfillment or childbearing. Rather, it was to give man a companion and helper. In forming her from man’s body, God teaches the equality and interdependence of the sexes. Each one complements the other. Companionship, mutual help, and family formation are the divine aims of marriage. It illustrates the relationship between Christ and His church (Eph. 5:21-23). Pray for marriages today.
