Hebrews 4:7b (NLT) …” Today when you hear His voice, don’t harden your hearts” …
As we continue our study of Joshua, remember that Canaan was the Land of Promise. It was the place of inheritance promised by God to Israel if they walked in their “covenant” agreement with Him. Today, Jesus offers us a “new covenant” (i.e., New Testament); and when we embrace faith in Jesus Christ, we begin to experience the blessings that come to God’s people who obey His Word. We must remember, as Israel needed to remember, that God looks on sin with uncompromising intolerance. Worship of God cannot co-exist with idolatry. Holiness cannot co-exist with wickedness. We obtain our inheritance in Christ by God through the “obedience of faith.” *We must keep our priorities in right order if we are going to experience the blessings that God wants for us. The warning in Hebrews 4 is not to “harden our hearts” like Israel did once they got settled into the Promised Land. It’s easy to compromise our faith when life gets easy. “Hold fast that which is good” (I Th. 5:21).
