Joshua 1:8 (NIV) Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Joshua was the servant of Moses. God assured Joshua of His unfailing faithfulness (vs. 5), of prosperity and success (vs. 8), and of his divine commission and God’s presence in all places (vs. 9). All this was contingent on Joshua’s knowledge of God’s Word and his undeviating obedience to it. If we want to be successful in the things in life that matter most, if we want to lead God’s people into effectiveness, the knowledge of Christ, and spiritual maturity, then like Joshua, we must live in undeviating obedience to God’s Word. Study it. Live it. Teach it.
