Revelation 3:20-22 (NIV) (focus verse 20)
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.
The general thought of this verse is the Lord’s call to fellowship between Himself and His people. Our communion with Him is contingent upon our response to His approach (vs. 20). Our response may involve a conflict between Him and other interests. (Notice the reference to overcoming in vs. 21.) Our response “is not merely a reluctant consent of the mind, but an active response in deed” (vs. 22 NLT – Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what He is saying to the churches. The Message – Are your ears awake? Listen…) In what ways do you “capture” His words? Do you write them in a journal? Do you put them on a post-it note on your bathroom mirror? How are you being intentional in your listening—hearing and opening the door to the voice of the Holy Spirit? Live awake! Pay attention! Don’t get distracted! Draw your whole self into attention to the Lord’s approach. Revival will not come without God’s people recognizing and responding to His approach.
