Revelation 3:20-21(KJV)
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock; if any man hears my voice, and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
We must pay attention. He seeks to arrest our attention “to make known His desire and obtain a response” from us. The opportunity is “if ANY man” (any person). The opportunity for communion with the Lord is given to all; but we must hear, not with the natural ear, but with the inner hearing of the heart. Are we perceptive (Matthew 13:15-16)? Do we recognize His voice? Samuel responded to Eli instead of to God because he did not recognize God’s voice (I Sam. 3:1-8). We must respond. Neither hearing nor recognition of His voice are enough without our response to it (Exodus 3:4).
