Exodus 15: 22-23 (NIV) Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert of Shur. For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water.
God would take the Children of Israel through various “schools of divine providence” on their wilderness trek to the Promised Land. Each one was meant to train them so they would be fit for living in and retaining the land of promise. Their first was the SCHOOL OF DISAPPOINTMENT. The Children of Israel complained over their failure to find palatable water, and it bears eloquent testimony to the shallowness of their Red Sea song of triumph. They needed to learn some things about God, and they would learn them (hopefully) in midst of some kind of disappointment—in this case, the lack of drinkable water. What do WE learn in our “Schools of Disappointment”? Sometimes God delays (John 11:6-32). Sometimes God’s methods are disappointing (II Kings 5:11-12). Sometimes God’s claims are disappointing (Mark 10:17-22). How will you respond? How will you grow or wither in that school? Lessons await. Learn them well.
