Deuteronomy 17:14-20 (focus verse 15) (NIV)
…be sure to appoint over you the king the Lord your God chooses…
While Israel’s government initially was a theocracy, when it came time for a king the criteria was firmly established: 1) “He must safeguard himself against influences that would divert him from God (17:14-17); 2) He must give the word of God the controlling place in his life (17:18-19); 3) He must guard against pride and an undue sense of superiority over his people (17:20); and 4) He must insure the continuity of his reign by continued compliance with the precepts of the word of God (17:20).” How would our nation be different if our government leaders had these qualifications! Whenever you vote, do so prayerfully.
