DAILY DEVOTIONS – THURSDAY MARCH 3, 2022

Isaiah 50:5 (NIV)

The Sovereign Lord has opened my ears and I have not been rebellious;  I have not drawn back.

“The cultivation of the spiritual faculty of hearing involves a responsiveness to God in submission to His sovereignty and the surrender of our own.”  This chapter in Isaiah is clearly Messianic.  Jesus is  “unjustly sentenced and severely brutalized, but He is certain that He will triumph through God’s help.  Thus He submits to God’s Word like a dedicated student in order to give answer to the dilemma of human despair” (The Hayford Bible Handbook).  Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced” (vs. 7).  Walking with God may involve walking with him on pathways that introduce to us human suffering beyond what we ever could imagine.  He sees the crude realities of our world, the human trafficking, the desperation of godless rulers.  Don’t draw back from what He shows you.  Let Him open your ears to the cries and heartaches.  Surrender to His sovereignty and let Him shape your soul so you can carry healing (in word and deed) into those in suffering places.
