Romans 8:5 (Passion Translation) …those who live by the impulses of the Holy Spirit are motivated to pursue spiritual realities.
When you have a healthy soul, spiritual gifts are engaged and you are pouring out from the Spirit of God within you. You have discernment and ever expanding ways of connecting with God that enable you to serve out of the overflow of that relationship. When you have a healthy soul you do the work of self-leadership that is necessary so that you can carry with you the optimism and confidence that results from being in God’s presence (which is the most important thing we do). We are not immune to the drain of a crisis, but we must prioritize spiritual care or we will become infected by the toxicity of our culture. Like the wise bridesmaids (Matthew 25), we must take more than a lamp (a structure meant to hold oil) into the night—we must take oil for the lamp (a symbol of the Holy Spirit). We cannot shed light or accomplish anything of eternal value apart from the indwelling Holy Spirit. Pray for revival.
