Matthew 5:23-24 (TPT) So then, if you are presenting a gift before the altar in the temple, and suddenly you remember a quarrel you have with a fellow believer, leave your gift there in front of the altar, and go at once to apologize to the one who is offended. Then, after you have reconciled, come to the altar and present your gift.
“The Jewish Law focused on behavior: Do not murder. But God’s deeper concern is with human motives and intent. Thus anger, which leads to the harming of a brother, is also God’s concern! Each case Jesus cites follows this pattern. Law regulates acts of adultery; God is concerned with lust (vs. 27-30). Law permits divorce: God is concerned with lifelong faithfulness (vs. 31-32). The Pharisee’s demanded binding oaths; God wants a people so honest that their word is their bond (vs. 33-37). The Law permits revenge: God seeks a people who will act lovingly even to enemies (vs. 38-48).” This kind of lifestyle is possible only through the Holy Spirit’s power at work in us. How is He working in you?
