DAILY DEVOTIONS – TUESDAY OCTOBER 20, 2020

Acts 7:24b (NLT)  He saw an Egyptian mistreating an Israelite.  So Moses came to the man’s defense and avenged him,  killing the Egyptian…

What he saw aroused Moses to action;  but it was  “an impetuous action of self-effort that was void of reliance upon God.  All the knowledge and wisdom he had acquired in Egypt’s institutes of learning was not adequate to equip him for the work of God.”  To his surprise,  his attempt to avenge his Hebrew brothers was met with resistance:  “Who put you in charge of us?” (MSG v. 27).  Moses’  escape into the desert of Midian positioned him for his encounter with God at the burning bush.  We learn more from failure than success.  We all make mistakes in our best efforts to do God’s work.  The learning curves are difficult but necessary.  Moses learned that attitudes of malice and resentment toward those who are in the wrong must be overcome if the bigger battles are to be won.  Inner change must precede,  and will lead to,  outer change.
