Deuteronomy 6:3 Hear, O Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your fathers, promised you.
Moses exhorts Israel to: 1) give the word of God a central place in the home (6:6-9); 2) not forget the Lord in the time of prosperity (6:10-12); 3) order their lives according to God’s principles of righteousness (6:13-19); 4) testify to their posterity about the wonderful works of God, so as to induce them into continued allegiance to Him; 5) refrain from intermarriage with other nations who do not worship Him because of inevitable compromises and conformity to godless practices that would result from such a union (7:1-6) (In today’s world that translates into the need for believers to “be yoked” to other believers – II Cor. 6:14). God wants things to go well with us, but so much of that rests on our obedience to His Word.
