DAILY DEVOTIONS – WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 8, 2021

Deuteronomy 4:1-2 (NIV) Hear now, O Israel, the decrees and laws I am about to teach you.  Follow them so that you may live and may go in and take possession of the land that the Lord, the God of your fathers, is giving you.  Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you.

Continued possession of the Promised Land was contingent upon the people holding fast to the unchanging integrity of the Word of God.  As Israel’s history illustrates, as long as they  “held fast to the Lord” (4:3-14) and lived in obedience to His Law, they prospered.  Are we merely converts to Christianity, or are we disciples? Disciples follow Jesus and hold fast to Him and His Word “so that (they) may live”  and “take possession” of God’s promises. Don’t compromise—add to or take away from God’s standards of righteousness.  He wrote the  “rules”  for healthy, happy,  “abundant” life: (Jesus said) “I have come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).
