Luke 4:36 (NIV) – All the people were amazed and said to each other, “What is this teaching? With authority and power He gives orders to evil spirits and they come out!”
Read the whole story. Demons had to yield to Christ’s authority. His life-transforming power got the people’s attention. God has called us to make a powerful impact in this world (not just be happy and live to ourselves). Depending on how well we listen in the School of the Spirit, we develop corresponding authority that causes us to not only notice but also do something about people who are bound up in debilitating circumstances. God calls us to push back the darkness, “proclaim freedom for the prisoners” and “release the oppressed” (Luke 4:18). Perfect love casts out all fear (I John 4:18). Let Jesus use you as a conduit of love and power to help those who are wounded, broken, fearful, and oppressed.
