DEVOTIONS – THURSDAY JANUARY 30, 2020

Psalm 131:2 (NLT)  I have calmed and quieted myself,  like a weaned child who no longer cries for its mother’s milk.  Yes,  like a weaned child is my soul within me.

“Learning to rest in God in times of solitude begins with the body,  as the image of the nursing child suggests.  Sometimes the baby resists settling down enough to take what the mother offers.  But when the baby’s whole body relaxes in total peace and trust,  love is given and received at a deep experiential level through the intimacy of being heart to heart.  Fully present with one another,  mother and baby experience each other at a level that is beyond words.  The baby can rest and the mother is with her in a deeply satisfying way.  God longs for these moments with us—peace,  tranquility,  communion.  God is much more aware than we are of how much we need  “beyond words”  togetherness with Him.  He waits patiently for us to stop flailing around,  relax and receive the nourishment of His presence.”  Have you learned to quiet yourself and receive God’s nourishment?
