John 16:30b (NIV) …In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
Two people can have the same amount of pain and difficult circumstances and yet have completely different responses. We must learn to audit things that stress us out. The stress system is a reactive one that goes through filters and tells you when something is a danger or not. And it has a lot to do with how we think about or perceive things. Can you appropriately align your stress responses to what is happening? What will you decide to get stressed out about—when the pencils are not in a row or if the building is on fire? List the things that stress you and ask why you are so stressed over each thing. Are you “right sizing” the chaos? Is it really a bloodbath or merely an inconvenience? Don’t hit the panic button for every little thing. Train your brain to deal with stress by “right sizing” things in your head. Consider your interpretation of a situation versus how bad it actually is. God can help you with the “right sizing” process. Invite His perspective for a realistic viewpoint and lessen your stress.
