Philippians 3:8-9 (KJV) …that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own…but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.
As we grow in our faith our behavior increasingly becomes inseparably linked with righteousness. We continue to have an “old nature” (false self) that is “altogether corrupt and vile, ever seeking to rise up and darken your sense of acceptance and of access to unbroken fellowship with the Father”* But as we determine to “walk worthy” (Eph. 4:1) and yield to the Holy Spirit’s lead, we remember who we are and whose we are. We are robed in His righteousness–not a self-made righteousness, but the righteousness that God provides for us. Stand in that. Live conscious of that. “You are the King’s messenger and representative, an object of delight and pleasure in Christ.”* You do not need to sink under false accusations. You are “in Christ—who has been made to you wisdom, righteousness and sanctification and redemption.” That’s who you are!
