Devotion – Thu. Feb. 28, 2019

Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed (Peter). “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” What happened to the faith that Peter initially felt as he began to walk on the water to Jesus? For a few steps he walked in a miracle; but when his focus shifted to the waves, fear caused him to begin to sink. Faith has much to do with sustained focus. Sometimes the object of focus can determine the strength of that faith. The wind was real, but Christ’s reality was greater. There are many lessons for us to learn about faith as we journey through life and they are not simple lessons, so we need to listen carefully. Like Peter, we will take bold steps forward only to find ourselves sinking; and we will hear the Lord ask, “Why did you doubt?”

Matthew 14:25-33 NLT

It is comforting to know that Jesus immediately reaches out His hand to catch us whenever we cry out to Him. But never act in presumption. Always act in response to the Lord’s clear voice. Today, pray for those who are struggling to connect faith with life.
