Jeremiah 1:5 (NIV) – Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.
God calls both men and women into ministry with resolve, “not withstanding the risks involved in choosing a necessarily faulty instrument, God determines the choice of the individual.” God separates the person apart from others “in effect passing others by and setting them apart.” And God communicates His call by any of a variety of means. Jesus spent a whole night in prayer before calling His disciples (Luke 6:12-13). He chose in harmony with the Father’s will, not according to man’s accomplishments. “Being chosen by Him involves being rejected by the world and the bearing of a personal cross.” That cross is very personal and includes “whatever suffering befalls us or whatever sacrifice is incumbent upon us in consequence to the known will of God for our lives. Therefore, everyone has a different cross.” The call (His voice, His Spirit, His presence) holds us steady during tough times (I Thess. 5:24).
