HOLY WEEK DEVOTIONS – THURSDAY APRIL 9, 2020

Mark 14:61-62 (The Message) In the middle of this, the Chief Priest stood up and asked Jesus, “What do you have to say to the accusation?” Jesus was silent. He said nothing. The Chief Priest tried again, this time asking, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed?”

Jesus said, “Yes, I am, and you’ll see it yourself:
The Son of Man seated
At the right hand of the Mighty One,
Arriving on the clouds of heaven.”

Earlier,  Jesus had taught the disciples that they would face opposition just as He would.  Their spiritual development would depend on how well they could cope with that reality.  The same is true for us.  Jesus’  response during His arrest and trial teaches us how to respond.  Jesus’  way of engaging with opposition was not through fighting back or reflecting fear.  Pilate was amazed  (Mark 15:5).  God’s call upon His life included this space.  So He trusted His Heavenly Father.  John 19:11 reveals how deeply rooted Jesus was in the security and identity that God provided Him.  There was no need to whine,  cry or explain;  no need for rebuttal.  Our confidence comes in knowing that one day,  justice will come.  How should we respond to rejection and resistance?  We trust God in the face of opposition.  We rest in the identity that God has given to us.  In the end,  God will set all things right.  How are you coping with your present reality?
